Northern Memorial Park Depot
Glenroy, Victoria · 2023–2025
A two-storey mass-timber operations depot for the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, now the main base for the park's northern horticulture and burial teams. The building houses vehicles, workshops and storage below, with offices, meeting rooms and collaboration spaces above.
The project stands out for its use of engineered timber. Twenty glulam (GLT) trusses form the backbone of the structure — each one unique in height and configuration, with offices tucked between the lower and upper chords to create functional, visually striking spaces.
The trusses span up to 35 metres across the ground-floor garage, workshops and storage, lifting incrementally to six metres where they intersect the first-floor offices, lunchroom and meeting spaces. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) slabs with custom openings give a clear visual connection between levels, while open-air CLT walkways thread through the truss chords to link enclosed rooms with interstitial collaboration zones.
